Faith meets field

Devotionals for your discipline

A weekly reading written for the questions your major actually asks — auto-rotating, or pick your field.

Monday Reading · For scientists

The lab as a sanctuary of wonder

Every measurement is an act of attention, and attention is the beginning of worship. When you peer through a microscope or model a system, you are tracing the fingerprints of a faithful Designer. Research is not neutral data collection — it is a disciplined wonder that says, with the Psalmist, "How manifold are your works!"

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” — Psalm 19:1

Reflect

  • Where did you sense wonder in your work this week?
  • How can your research serve your neighbor?
  • Pray for honesty and humility in your findings.

Monday Reading · For economists & founders

Markets as a place to love your neighbor

Economics is the study of how finite resources meet human need — which makes it, at its best, a discipline of love. Every model carries assumptions about what people are for. As believers we hold that work is dignity, profit is stewardship, and the goal is not accumulation but the flourishing of the whole community.

“Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord.” — Proverbs 19:17

Reflect

  • Whom does your work ultimately serve?
  • Where is generosity costly for you?
  • Pray for integrity under pressure.

Monday Reading · For artists & writers

Sub-creators in the image of the Maker

The first thing Scripture tells us about God is that He creates. To make art is to echo that first creative breath. Your sculpture, sonnet, or score is not decoration — it is a way of telling the truth slant, of helping a weary world see beauty and remember its source.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” — Ecclesiastes 3:11

Reflect

  • What truth is your work telling?
  • Where do you create for applause vs. love?
  • Pray for courage to make beauty.

Monday Reading · For engineers & builders

Build as those who will be built upon

Every bridge, algorithm, and circuit is a moral object — it shapes how people live. Engineering invites us to ask not only "can we?" but "should we, and for whose good?" To build well is to love the strangers who will one day depend on your work without ever knowing your name.

“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.” — Psalm 127:1

Reflect

  • Who depends on what you build?
  • Where might you cut corners under deadline?
  • Pray for wisdom in design.

Monday Reading · For pre-health & psychology

To heal is to imitate the Great Physician

Medicine and counseling meet people at their most fragile. Your study of the body and mind is preparation to sit with suffering and bring comfort. Competence is compassion made reliable. Learn well — because one day a frightened person will be glad you did.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3

Reflect

  • How do you guard compassion from burnout?
  • Who can you sit with this week?
  • Pray for tender, steady hands.
